Within the framework of the British Council-funded project: ‘ Reducing Gender Disparity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) from Kindergarten to Professional Life’, we launch the Special Issue (SI): Women in Earth Disaster Science: Preparedness, Response and Recovery at Earth Journal from MDPI. Women have always been classified as a vulnerable population in academic literature, given their physical constitution, discrimination throughout history, and consequent economic disparity, which is why they are the most impacted after disasters of any kind. In this SI, we would like to publish academic research focused on the opposite: empowered women and/or those who identified as women who have contributed to and led mitigation and prevention actions, but especially women or those who identified as women with roles in the preparedness, response, and recovery phases of the disaster management cycle, in which women have not been very visible, but we are sure they play an important role that deserves to be researched rigorously.

This Special Issue, “Women in Earth Disaster Science: Preparedness, Response and Recovery”, aims to garner original research articles and reviews on earth disaster science, covering any phase of the disaster management Cycle due to natural phenomena. Dr (PhD) Diana Contreras, Principal Investigator and Earth Journal and the Guest Editor: , we invite all women scientists leading research on Earth Disaster Science to submit an original manuscript to this SI, including those that highlight the successful role of women and/or those who identified as women in preparedness, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery phases of the disaster management cycle—areas where their input remains insufficiently researched. Contributions that also address topics such as the role of women in prevention, mitigation, and vulnerability are also welcome. Submissions must have a woman as the first or corresponding author to be considered for inclusion. The deadline for manuscript submissions is 31st March 2027.
