Reducing Gender Disparity in Higher Education
About us
On 2024, the British Council launched ‘Going Global Partnerships’. This is a call for proposals for Women in STEM. Going Global Partnerships supports universities, colleges, and wider education stakeholders, around the world to work together towards stronger, equitable, inclusive, more internationally connected higher education, science and Technical and Vocational Education and Training through international partnerships, system collaborations and opportunities to connect and share.

On the 8th November 2024, British Council communicated to proposed Principal Investigators (PIs) in Ain Shams and Cairo University in Egypt and Cardiff University that we had been awarded this grant to develop the project:’Reducing Gender Disparity in Higher Education in Science and Engineering from Highschool to Higher Education (GDSE)‘. The main focus areas of our project are addressing women’s underrepresentation in leadership and strengthening pathways into employment, and began in January 2025 and is scheduled to conclude at the end of this year.
Based on the experience of Cardiff University, particularly the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, which was awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze in 2023 alongside its Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, we agreed to provide training in this topic to partners at Ain Shams and Cairo University.
