DECIDE - Decoding Cities for Informed Decision Making
WSA PGR Seminar – Merging multi-risk analysis and territorial-configurational approaches for buildings’ Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
19 July 2024We were pleased to host the WSA PGR Seminar on Merging multi-risk analysis and territorial-configurational approaches for buildings’ Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), presented by Eng. Federica del Carlo* (University of Pisa, Italy) and Dr. Diego Altafini (WSA – DECIDE).
The talk addressed multi-hazards vulnerability strategies in the context of cultural heritage buildings, presenting a methodology that aims to overcome the current sector-based approaches to vulnerability and risk analysis. These methods are developed at the territorial scale, providing synthetic indices able to quantitively describe the seismic and landslide vulnerability of a large number of churches.
On a second part of the talk, we described how collaborative efforts between different domains of knowledge can allow to “move across scales”, towards a multi-factor analysis of risk at urban-regional scale, also considering territorial-configurational factors, and integrating both building-related, demographics-related and infrastructural network-related information. The talk also showcased how seemingly distinct fields can find common points to collaborate in research efforts, and demonstrated how different simulations can be integrated within Decision Support System frameworks, thus providing an overview about the potentialities within DECIDE.
