DECIDE is on the 7th International Symposium on Formal Methods in Architecture 2024

2 December 2024

DECIDE will participate in the upcoming 7th International Symposium on Formal Methods in Architecture 2024, which will be held from 2nd to 6th December 2024, at the City of Porto, Portugal.

Our paper will present an account of the formal methods used to inform and examine the performance of Porto Alegre’s Metropolitan Region (Brazil) road-circulation network after the May 2024 floods. DECIDE has been engaged, working alongside local researchers and stakeholders to provide actionable information and decision support in response to this disaster. The paper showcases comparisons made with configurational analysis between the pre-disaster configuration and three post-disaster scenarios, highlighting how the urban grid cohesiveness was affected by the inundations, both at a local and at a regional scale. Key findings showcase important overall system performance shifts in terms of relative accessibility and preferential routes’ choice, especially concerning vehicular movement, and demonstrates the points where intervention is necessary and required, raising awareness of the local stakeholders for the network effects of their actions.

This research was conducted by DECIDE in collaboration with the researchers from the Instituto de Pesquisas Hidráulicas (IPH) of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
